Main Attractions at the Yorkdale Mall?

Digitus, 2008 by Cory Fuhr

The 7-foot sculpture made of stainless steel that is similar to a robotic hand is called Digitus. Toronto artist Cory Fuhr created this attraction at Yorkdale's east atrium. The Yorkdale Community Art Centre commissioned Digitus under the sponsorship of Yorkdale Mall and Toronto Economic Development Parks & Recreation to make art more accessible for everyone.

Universal Man, 1976 by Gerald Gladstone

This attraction symbolizes the earthbound human energies reaching toward a higher universal knowledge. The sculpture is at Yorkdale's Dufferin Street entrance near Hudson's Bay.

The Universal Man was dedicated to Yorkdale and officially made public by Mayor Mel Lastman on September 26, 1994. The Canadian National Railway commissioned this 6.5-metre bronze sculpture. The goal was to give a balance of human scale to the CN Tower, which stood from 1976 to 1987.

The Tritons, 1964 by Graham Coughtry

The Tritons, a sizeable figurative sculpture by Graham Coughtry, was commissioned to celebrate the completion of the Yorkdale in 1964. The attraction still graces the shopping mall's northeast entrance near Cineplex today.

The bronze sculpture presents three humanoid figures intertwined, striving to reach the top. Graham Coughtry was one of the artists who brought abstract art to Canada.

The Director and Officers of Trizec Corporation Limited commissioned this attraction. They dedicated it to the employees and advisors of Triton Centres Limited, whose skill and energy made Yorkdale Mall a reality.
